Okay so this is super weird. Let me just be real with you. At the beginning of 2019 my GP and I sent off my referral to the gender clinic we'd decided on, and the wait began. And went on. And on. And, you guessed it, on. Finally I have been accepted to a bridging service, but this is a short term solution to a lifelong problem. Most worryingly to me right now, this service does not offer surgery on the NHS.
A little context for those of you who don't know: my name is Arthur Hugh Rowley, I am a British autistic 21 year old trans masculine enby looking to medically transition. I became aware of my gender identity at around 15 years of age (although I dithered in the closet for, oh, just a meager 3 years), around the same time I was suffering several from ill mental health. Now, I have long since come out to friends and family, socially transitioned, and even changed my name via deedpoll. But, things are getting difficult again. The NHS wait-times seem endless and all the while I spend day after day in a body that doesn't fit, I'm misgendered relentlessly, and it has had an extremely detrimental effect on my mental health. My only other option? Private transition. It is for this that I am fundraising. I struggle to ask other people for help, especially when it comes to money, but I have come to realise that this life isn't something I can face alone. I am a full-time student, struggling with unemployment due to my unstable mental health, and so I find myself with no choice but to ask for help.
