It’s Been Rough on Rats

Tax deductible

Art for Animals' Sake (AFAS) is a Los Angeles based non-profit which engages students of all ages to help build confidence through the arts, creating a more compassionate world for all human and non-human animals. AFAS is raising funds for a one-of-a-kind book and accompanying art exhibit celebrating a small animal with a big personality – the rat!

You’re participation could be a big deal for these little beings.

The exhibition will be opening on May 20th in San Francisco, so the time to lend a paw for these critters is NOW.

Join the Rattie Uprising
The Rattie Uprising (TRU) will illuminate the social and emotional lives of some of these tragically misunderstood animals. The book and exhibition will bring together images depicting rats (as well as mice and other small animals) in art and popular culture. Parallel to the exhibit we are offering free hands-on art events for young people that encourage empathy for all animals.

How you can help
Your donation is important for the success of this venture. Funds will help to cover the cost of publication, and exhibit expenses (printed images, promotional pieces, and art supplies). Join us in our journey as we start a conversation about small animals, developing protections for them and strengthening the animal/human bond.

It’s been rough on rats
Throughout history, rats have had a bad reputation. From being squarely blamed for the spread of the Black Death in the Middle Ages to being cast as monstrous B-movie villains, their lousy rep has led to plenty of real-life suffering. Even today, rats are shamefully excluded from the Federal Animal Welfare Act, a law that pretends to ensure the welfare and safety of animals in laboratories.

Let’s turn it around
Rats like the eponymous Ratatouille are modern-day movie heroes. Hundreds of thousands of people have signed petitions to end lab testing on rodents and many have fallen in love with and adopted rescued rats. By supporting the Rattie Uprising, you will help bring provocative artwork to audiences young and old, question and challenge the rat’s bad reputation, and most importantly help write a new, positive chapter for this amazing animal!

Thanks you so much for your donation and  support!
