ART YARD Virtual Programs

ART YARD BKLYN offers art education programs for underserved children, teens and young adults, providing direct access to contemporary visual art. Classes foster a range of skills, from art technique to critical thinking, which helps scaffold student achievement of academic, social, and personal goals.

Students work with Director Meridith McNeal, Managing Director Dennis Buonagura and a rotating roster of talented professional Teaching Artists.  Kentler International Drawing Space, a not-for-profit gallery in Red Hook, Brooklyn, serves as our home base for programs. 


With the onset of COVID-19-related school and business closures and mandated NYC quarantine, we are not able to provide in-person direct programming for our students, teaching artists, and staff.

On March 12, we developed interactive and gallery pages to our website: artyardbklyn.org. The site is maintained by ART YARD Director Meridith McNeal. Each week we post a directed thread guiding ART YARD artists of all ages in the creation of artwork, sharing of ideas, and engagement in critical dialogue. We are conducting ART YARD Advanced Studio sessions live each week through Zoom. Lessons are taught by a Teaching Artist, and one administrator participates to organize and oversee the session. Advanced Studio Artists will also work together to curate the next exhibition in a virtual manifestation for Kentler International Drawing Space. The exhibition, "In Reflection", will explore the theme of reflection. The curators will select artists from the Kentler Flat Files, and a curatorial essay and curators’ talks will be developed.


ART YARD has rapidly pivoted its services online, not only providing a forum for existing ART YARD students, instructors, and artists but inviting former students who have moved from NYC, friends and supporters around the world to participate, enriching and expanding ART YARD’s community far beyond the New York metro area.

We are seeking funds through #gofundme to pay teaching artists and staff to develop, maintain, and teach our virtual programs and support ART YARD’s new global reach. Our goal is to raise at least $5,000.
