Who am I?

Salaam, my name is Sana Afzil. I am a qualified Secondary English teacher and Islamic Studies teacher. On my first day of starting  English and Creative Writing at University , I began my  Quran teaching journey after qualifying from Jamea-al-Kauthar , 5 years ago (time flew by!).  In these 5 years my small class of 4 students has now become an evening Madrassa of 40 students and an increasing waiting list.
I currently work as a Special Educational Needs teacher at a local secondary school in Coventry alongside managing the Love of my Life, Ar-Rahman Academy.

What is Ar-Rahman Academy?

Ar-Rahman Academy is an evening Madrassa for the children/teenagers of Coventry. Our aim is to teach Islam through the prominent qualities of the best teacher to walk on the face of this Earth, Prophet Muhammed (s.a.w).  These qualities are, Love, Mercy, Friendliness and Kindness.
It is because of these beautiful qualities our teachers have emulated that we have  made great progress in many young people's Islamic Lifestyle.

Our motto: 'My mercy overpowers my anger'

The Prophet Muhammed (s.a.w) said: 'When Allah completed the creation, He wrote in His Book which is with Him on His throne, 'My Mercy overpowers my anger' (Subhan Allah, is there anyone in the world who Loves us like Allah?)

I chose this motto for my Academy because it is the duty of every person holding a position of authority to show mercy to everyone especially children, as making mistakes and failures are all part of being human. If Allah, the King of the World can suppress His anger after our countless faults, then why can't we?

Ar-Rahman is one of the 99 names of Allah which derives from the Arabic word 'Rahmah', meaning mercy, BEHOLD... I named the academy Ar-Rahman.

Why get involved?

One classroom, two evening shifts with three teachers isn't enough. Alhamdullillah, we have managed Ar-Rahman by dividing our students against three teachers improving the quality of our teaching with small class numbers. However, space is a huge problem with our increasing waiting list and high demands of the community. This is why I need your support to build a few classrooms and a wudhu khana (toilets) in our local community.

Our goal is to use the building for Islamic creative activities, a community food bank and weekend youth clubs in the future; A home for everyone.

How can YOU help?

1. Donate towards this beautiful cause.
2. Regular giving, every penny counts!
3. We started a Home Made food business-on Instagram @sanasavouries all to support this project. If you live in Coventry order from us one day! You won’t be disheartened, it’s delicious and 100% towards the Madrassa.
4. I would say organise a fundraiser but due to COVID 19 that’s highly unlikely! So why not just SHARE this page.

We're aiming to start this project in Summer 2021. For now, we’ve benefited immensely from our online teaching and learning during these unprecedented times.

Bismillah, let’s begin :)
