Hi my name is Áron O’ Connor Casey, I am a 5th year student in Ardscoil Ris in Marino and on the March 20th myself, ten students and three teachers will travel to Zambia as part of the school’s Zambia immersion project.

Every second year since 2003 the school has sent a group of students from 4th and 5th year out to Mongu Zambia to get a better understanding of what life is like and get a first hand experience of what challenges the Zambian people face.

One of the big places that we help out In is the Cheshire home for disabled children. We will be doing basic physiotherapy with the kids who range from 4-18 years old and we will also give a helping hand wherever it is needed.

We will also travel to a place called Limilunga, a village 10km north of Mongu, where we will be helping out in local schools and renovating the school as much as we can.

An amazing part of this trip is when we will be spending a day in the local high school and get a real life experience of what life is like for the students of Zambia. We will pair up with the students and travel to school and home with them.

Towards the end of the trip we will be engaging in a farm project set up by the Irish government and which has been funded by Ardscoil Ris in the past. We will meet local certified farmers and travel to their farms help them plant crops and care for their animals.

We will also be journaling everything we do everyday as every night we will gather as a group and reflect on the day passed.
