On January 8th, our dad was in a car accident caused by an individual who decided to run a stop sign, that resulted in a broken right leg. The type of fracture (shattered patella and a tibial plateau fracture) required surgery and 6 weeks of no bending the knee and no walking. As many of you all know, my family owns a plant nursery and my dad has worked hard for many years making it what it is today. He works long days all year long, so the car accident really kept him from doing anything. We all helped as much as possible during his recovery time. However, as COVID-19 started, it slowed business down again, significantly.
Our dad, thankfully, has slowly started walking again with the help of physical therapy twice a week. However, for the past few weeks, my dad’s knee was not bending, inhibiting his progress with walking and other physical activity required for the type of work he does. On June 1st we found out that my dad will again require surgery with additional physical therapy to hopefully gain more movement to his right knee.
This accident has caused financial difficulties, on top of trauma for my family. The total of all medical expenses, surgeries and PT, would be $76,000+, so we would be very grateful for anything you can contribute.
El 8 de enero, nuestro padre tuvo un accidente automovilístico causado por una persona que decidió no hacer alto, que resultó en una pierna derecha rota. El tipo de fractura (rotura de la rótula y una fractura de meseta tibial) requirió cirugía y 6 semanas sin doblar la rodilla y sin caminar. Como muchos de ustedes saben, mi familia posee un vivero de plantas y mi padre ha trabajado duro durante muchos años para que sea lo que es hoy. Trabaja largos días durante todo el año, por lo que el accidente automovilístico realmente le impidió hacer nada. Todos ayudamos lo más posible durante su tiempo de recuperación. Sin embargo, cuando comenzó COVID-19, ralentizó el negocio nuevamente, significativamente.
Nuestro padre, afortunadamente, comenzó a caminar lentamente nuevamente con la ayuda de la fisioterapia dos veces por semana. Sin embargo, durante las últimas semanas, la rodilla de mi padre no se dobló, lo que inhibió su progreso al caminar y otras actividades físicas requeridas para el tipo de trabajo que realiza. El 1 de junio descubrimos que mi padre nuevamente necesitará cirugía con fisioterapia adicional para, con suerte, obtener más movimiento en su rodilla derecha.
