Southeast San Diego has long struggled with an image plagued by street gangs, drug dealing, and homicide throughout its various communities. For youth, it can be a difficult place to grow up in, with many simply hoping to live see the age of 21. Families in these neighborhoods are working class or lower-income, which, at times, creates financial barriers that don't always allow for youth to engage in or participate in activities that pique their interest. For years we have been seen as just a football team, or just an extracurricular activity; but we are more than that. Over the past couple of years, we have grown to not only coach our kids on the field, but to mentor them off the field as well. Our coaches love and care for the kids we serve, so much so that many are former Southeast San Diego youth that have returned to the city they once escaped from in order to give back and help give someone else the opportunity that they had.
Despite the obstacles faced while trying to overcome poverty and violence, playing football has helped many become more successful in school with some obtaining 3.0 GPA's and receiving awards for their academic excellence. Our wish is to continue this tradition, but we can't do it without your help. For some of the families, playing football means choosing between paying for uniforms, or buying groceries, the latter of which means a family may have to go without food. We are looking to ease the burden of the parents and seek out sponsors to alleviate some of the financial burden.
In a time of funding scarcity, we turn to generous donors like you! Funds raised will go toward team travel expenses for youth football tournements in Las Vegas or Hawaii, equipment: mouthpieces, compression shorts, team socks. etc and our end of season banquet. Your compassion and financial contribution can help us continue to inspire many. Our kids are eager to know that someone else is rooting for their success. Help us mentor our youth for better futures and higher education and instill the principles of family, community, sportsmanship and brotherhood. Donate to the Tigers, today!
