Arctic Football Team Dreams to Reality

I am writing this on behalf of the Barrow Whaler's High School Football Team. The Last two seasons were cancelled due to the Covid19 pandemic. We had our schedule set to play in 2021, but due to a rise in Covid-19 cases in our village we were only able to play two games. Overall, in the past two seasons, I have players who have only played in two games in two years. The student athletes were excited, committed, and bought into the vision the coaching staff put together for them in 2020 and 2021. You can only imagine their devastation when their season was cancelled for the second year in row.

 

We have been to the State Championship three years in a row. We won the state title in 2017 and were state runner-up in 2018 and 2019. The Whaler Football Program has had five players move on to play at the college level and furthering education through athletic opportunities is always our goal.

 

We are asking for your support toward funding for college tours and football camps to be held in the lower United States (the lower 48). We will be working out in the off-season to get in shape for these events. We will be fundraising year-round to make this opportunity a reality for our team. We will need to provide for travel (air and ground), lodging, meals, and any other incurred expenses. We plan on taking (20) young men and three (3) Chaperones on this life changing trip. Without a road system on the North slope of Alaska it is a financial burden to get our athletes to camp and other events in the lower United States. Our main goal is to get the players exposure. This will help our student athletes make decisions about their future as well as show them what secondary educational opportunities are available to them.
