Arah's Story
Arah has right-sided weakness, due to an unknown event that occurred in her brain before birth. Arah has worked tirelessly at Therapy (OT, PT, Speech, Constraint, Bi-lateral) since she was 6 months old. She has a very full schedule for a 5 year old. She has had casts on her left arm to try to strengthen her right arm. She will soon get a cast on her right leg to keep it in a stretched position for four weeks. Arah gets botox injections in her leg a few times a year. She sleeps every night with a stretching contraption on her leg in an effort to keep her muscles stretched.
Arah is a hardworking girl. Even with all of the hard work there are still many obstacles to overcome. As her body grows new challenges in muscle tone arise. Even with all of the therapies and treatments, we are still fighting to keep her symptoms form worsening.
What We Are Doing
Duke University has had great results in Stem Cell Transfusions for kids with Cerebral Palsy (CP), like Arah. We have been working with Duke to get her on the list for a transfusion. We are lucky that we saved her Stem Cells. Arah will be getting her transfusion after the New Year (2018).
Why Stem Cells
Stem Cells can repair the damaged cells in Arah's brain. This will allow her brain to better communicate with the right-side of her body and decrease her symptoms. No amount of therapy or any other treatment can actually repair or correct CP. Her current plan of care is only treating symptoms and preventing new symptoms. Stem Cell transfusion is currently the only method of correcting of CP.
What Arah Needs
The Stem Cell transfer is considered "investigational" neither one of Arah's medical insurances will cover the costs. We are looking at a bill of $23,760. Money should not limit this wonderful person’s full potential. Time is of the essence, Stem Cells are like medicine and the amount of Stem Cells required is proportionate to weight. Arah is a growing girl and will grow out of the Stem Cells that were collected at her birth...we need your help. Please donate today.
