Apro's Treatment

In January of this year, my wife and I welcomed Apró into our lives. Apró (Hungarian for “small” or “tiny”) was the runt of her litter. She was sold to owners in California and returned several months later with a limp and several unconfirmed diagnosis possibilities. The breeder’s vet did x-rays and screenings, but those didn’t reveal any serious injury that couldn’t be cured by time and rest. They also began a series of Adequan injections to ease any pain in her hip and did some sort of laser treatment. At the same time, the breeder was looking for someone to take Apró in, and my wife and I have wanted a dog for some time now. The fact that she is a Hungarian Vizsla was all the more exciting, since we fell in love with them while living in Budapest.
Since Apró’s arrival at our home here in Washington, we have maintained her Adequan injections and started a Carprofen treatment, all the while walking her and encouraging the use of her back left leg (where her injury is) through stretches and massages to rebuild muscle. After a couple of weeks, it became clear that she was still uncomfortable and that the limp was not improving, so we decided to do another scan of the leg and found a large growth on her upper femur. What followed was a bone biopsy and analysis at the WSU Veterinary Program, where they have top notch equipment and doctors. They determined that it likely is not cancer, which was the initial concern when the scan came back, but we cannot rule it out yet. The most likely explanation is a growth of adult bone over a previously undiscovered or misdiagnosed fracture in the puppy bone.
On Monday the 26th February, we will be transporting her to the WSU clinic for another round of scans and a second biopsy. It is our hope that they will find an answer for our puppy’s pain and that she will be able to walk and move comfortably again. We love her dearly; she melts the hearts of anyone who comes into contact with her, and they all say that she is the sweetest dog. We want her to have a long, happy, and healthy life, but we are not particularly well-off ourselves. We are seeking help in paying for whatever surgery she requires, whether that be an amputation or procedures to save the leg. My contact with WSU has only given us rough estimations of the cost of surgery, we just need some help making up the difference. We are reaching out to you to help with whatever you could - every little bit helps. We would be so grateful for your assistance in this trying time. Please help us make our sweet Apró well again.
