This is (a cruddy part of) the story of my best friend Cheri, and her husband Charlie.
They are seriously good people. They contribute to charities when they can, they volunteer to help their friends at all hours in their hours of need. They are kind. They love their friends, and they love animals, and they love each other.
See?
Problem is, you can't live on love.
Wouldn't it be cool, if you could?
Anyway, they purchased their own home, which they struggle to pay for on one salary. They have some money coming in from craft shows, but it depends on the mood of the consumer and, well... craft show consumers can be awfully hard to please. Some shows go well. Others don't. The last several have been the 2nd kind. And these shows generally charge you for the privilege of participation.
And now, their vehicle, which Charlie uses to get to his day job and Cheri uses to get to all her craft shows, has ceased to be.
They need funding to either fix the heck out of it, or replace it. In the meantime, they need money to pay for Charlie to get to work by other means, and to get to already-scheduled-and-paid-for craft shows.
The cost to fix the van starts at about $2,500, and may climb above that; right now they have an estimate of $600 to replace a selenoid (I don't pretend to know that that is, but though repair of it is vital, it does not guarantee drivability), after which it is likely the transmission may need to be replaced, the alignment fixed, and two tires replaced.
Look, they didn't want me to create this. They don't want to ask for help. No one WANTS this.
But I love them too much to watch them lose their home, which is what will happen if they can't get to work. I don't want to see them, or their fabulous furry family (actual cats, not, y'know, the other kind of furry) to end up on the street.
If they had the money, they'd sure as heck do it for you.
I know they'd do it for me.
They don't have anyone else to turn to. And prayer, while gratefully accepted, doesn't pay for cat litter.
There are a lot of things out there that want your money. There are fun Kickstarters to back, there are toys that are calling your name, there are charities to help, there are bills to pay, and there are groceries to buy. I know that. So do they. I don't want you to have to give up those things. But if you could give them what you can, it would mean the world to them. And to me.
Every little bit helps.
