Appa’s Tooth Surgery
Hi everyone! I’m a college student going into my senior year here at the University of Colorado Boulder, and I am currently in need of some help just like so many others. Before COVID-19 started I had two campus jobs so that I would be able to support myself and my dog, Appa. Unfortunately, like many others in similar situations, I was let go due to lack of work from both (one prior to the pandemic and one after it started). I have filled for unemployment, but have yet to hear back about my status and although I have actively been looking for work and still am, I am not having much luck. Appa is my best friend and my emotional support animal! We keep each other happy, active, and feeling loved/never alone. I would do anything for him and want him to have the best life possible and for awhile there, I was making that happen. That is, until I took him to vet the other day for some routine vaccines and found out he had cracked a tooth (down the middle with half of it still in and the root exposed) that needs to be extracted in order to avoid infection (this might take awhile to occur, but I don’t know how long it will take me to raise the money needed). I was given estimates by my vet and my heart immediately sunk. As of right now, without the money coming in from my two jobs I had previously held for this exact reason, I am unable to afford the surgery my best friend needs. I am currently going through my options and am aware that the BVHS has financial assistance for those who qualify, but they are 4-6weeks out for new patients and I am unsure if I will be able to have enough money by then. I am asking friends, family, and community members for any help they might be willing to provide me with so that Appa doesn’t have to risk infection because of my personal misfortunes. If you’re not interested in donating, perhaps allowing me to work for you in some capacity will be of more interest to you (if you are in Boulder). I’m willing to work hard and get my hands dirty if necessary. Anything from dog sitting/walking, gardening, babysitting, at home swim lessons (life guard for 4 years and water polo/swimmer for over 10, still cpr certified), deep house cleaning (my mom taught me to respect and enjoy the beauty of a clean home to the point where I actually enjoy cleaning wholeheartedly), to anything else available. I feel like I don’t deserve to ask for handouts with all that is going on right now. I am blessed to have a home and my best friend by my side, but there are others who are less fortunate than me. With that being said, if you decide to not donate, that’s perfectly okay, but perhaps you might consider donating to another cause that’s far bigger than mine such as BLM/George Floyd/Breonna Taylor donations or maybe COVID-19 relief fundraisers. I will be updating this page with links to those fundraisers! Please note that this fundraiser of mine is for my dog, Appa, but if by any chance there’s more money raised than he needs for surgery, I will be donating the rest of the excess money to one of these other fundraisers if I am allowed to!
