Send Army of Darkness to Nationals

Donation protected
Dear supporters of Army of Darkness,

Following a powerful performance in the fall, highlighted by a 3rd place finish at Lobster Pot in Portland, ME, the Amherst College Army of Darkness entered the spring season with high expectations. This past weekend, we fulfilled these ambitions by qualifying for the Men’s D-III College Championships for the first time in four years.

We began the spring by attending Delaware Showdown, traditionally a D-I tournament, and ultimately finished fourth in what was an encouraging early season performance. Building on this momentum, the next weekend we drove 13 hours south to compete at High Tide in Myrtle Beach, SC over spring break. Out of the 32-team field, including several D-I teams, we took home third place, cementing our status as a team-to-beat in Men’s D-III Ultimate. We rounded out our regular season by traveling down to Haverford, PA to participate in Layout Pigout. Seeded third, we finished as undefeated champions by beating perennial New England regional contenders, Bowdoin Clown and Bentley Icehouse, in the semi-finals and finals of bracket play, respectively. Following this performance, the Army of Darkness vaulted from unranked territory into being ranked eighth by USAU in D-III Men’s Ultimate.

At sectionals, we took care of business, and entered New England Regionals seeded third out of 12 teams. Once the Regional pools were released, we knew we had a tough task ahead of us, with Ultiworld dubbing our pool “quite possibly the most competitive pool from any regional event in the country”. Drawing on our regular season experience, we went 5-0 in pool play, overcoming two of our longtime rivals, Williams WUFO and Middlebury Pranksters, in the process. On Sunday, we carried our momentum through bracket play, culminating in an emphatic 15-7 win in the game-to-go over the 2015 and 2016 D-III College Championship Runners-up, Brandeis Tron.

While we are very excited about our accomplishments, we are not done yet. In three weeks, we will be traveling all the way to Lexington, KY to compete among the very best in Men’s D-III ultimate from around the country. In order to get there, we’ll need your help. Any support you could provide to send our team to Nationals would be greatly appreciated.

Love,

AoD
