Anything is Pawsable with a Therapy Dog

Hi, my name is Kerry, and I am fundraising to help offset the cost of a Therapy Dog.

I have been dreaming of this opportunity since I became a school counselor seven years ago and went to a new counselor training. I met a lady with a therapy dog there, and I was soooo intrigued! I then went to a state conference and met others with therapy dogs. With that, I was sold! I wanted a therapy dog. I came back to the district, put some research together and asked my principal what he thought. He was totally on board. I then went to my next person in charge of counselors and was shut down immediately and said it would never happen. I put my dream on hold!

Last year, my principal asked me if I wanted to be part of a district team to look at reviewing our policy on facility/therapy dogs. I jumped at the change to help re-write our policy. Last spring, Lee’s Summit approved the use of therapy dogs. A few weeks later, I contacted Warrior’s Best Friend and started researching the process of being a handler. I was officially paired with our dog today, and she joins our school family at Lee’s Summit West High School in late October!! So without further ado….I am excited to introduce you to Miss Mia!

Many people have asked how they can help support. I will be posting a go fund me soon. We also have a sock fundraiser currently going. We will do a 50/50 ‘Woof-le’ at our Homecoming Football game! Also, Warriors Best Friend is a wonderful non-profit organization that trains and places dogs with military organizations and K-12 schools.
