Another chance (at life!)
Many of you know me, or my father, or us as family. If you do, you will know that my father is a diabetic and suffers from pancreatitis, as a result of his more than decade long battle with alcoholism. It has been a very long, hard and painful journey but my father is brave, strong-willed and has refused to give up despite many setbacks along the way.
As of today, June 26 2019, my father has been sober for 1y2m15d...and counting! He intends to see this number growing until the end of his days. But, he (and we) need your help - the most pressing need being funding for a medical procedure called ERCP.
"Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, or ERCP, is a specialized technique used to study the bile ducts, pancreatic duct and gallbladder. Ducts are drainage routes; the drainage channels from the liver are called bile or biliary ducts. The pancreatic duct is the drainage channel from the pancreas." - ASGE
During the procedure, the ducts will be drained and a stent in the form of a metal tube inserted to ensure sufficient drainage going forward. Currently, the ducts are blocked and expanded, which has resulted in high infection levels and potentially high risk of liver damage. This is a life-threatening situation and requires urgent hospitalization.
The procedure will cost ~R54,000.00 / 3,700.00 CHF (this includes the hospital, treating doctor and Anesthetist accounts only.)
