What is a Sound-proofed-room?
A sound-proofed room is a room you construct inside a room, in order to keep sound from coming in, or going out. Popular with vocalists, music producers, and DJs.
Vocalists typically might use a 4’ by 4’ sound-proofed room while a DJ would likely need at least 4’ by 8.’ When I researched this more than a decade ago a custom-made 4’ x 8’ booth was at least $4,000.
Why right now?
The sound-proofed room we are fundraising for is 3 times as big for 60% of that price! - (12’ by 8’ or 96 square feet for $2500!).
It has 6 inch walls and cost $10,000 just in materials to make, saving us $7500 plus time and labor cost.
And…. It was built for LiveStreaming and already has green screen incorporated.
It's perfect for our purpose!
So what’s your purpose?
Our purpose is to serve the underground dance community with our creative new concept for a DJ-centric space offering a professional mixing environment, audio and video recordings and LiveStreams, microparties and other new experiences both locally in Eugene, OR, and nationally/globally through LiveStreaming.
What led you to this?
Ben Annand's event production company Tropical Since 98 has organized almost 100 events over 22 years in California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii, and has raised over $30,000 for charitable causes through those events
in June 2019 after producing Tropical Oasis Retreat Maui The Annand family moved from Hawaii to Eugene, Oregon and opened up Annand House Cafe.
Our non-alcoholic dance music cafe served up several events that summer and fall, as well as delicious superfood smoothies and elevated espressos.
The cafe had to be shelved due to legalities (or lack thereof) of operating a cafe from a live-work space, which our landlords approved but Lane County Health Dept said was illegal. The matter is now tied up in the court system, our date August 2nd was postponed to Sept 21st and now Nov 25th.
The pandemic of course complicated everything but also inspired many new ideas! Moving on from cafe dreams and canceled DJ gigs, Ben Annand started LiveStreaming, developing partnerships, and thinking about what the dance music world is going to look like in the near term
We know this - we want to continue to share music, raise money and awareness, and try to have some damn fun & release in this pandemic!
The culmination of many months of experimentation and imagination and recent developments in court, sound-proofed rooms and life is… the Annand House LiveStream Lounge
So what exactly is Annand House LiveStream Lounge?
Inside an 8 foot by 12 foot soundproofed room, we create an environment and experience for just 1-4 people to enjoy, while cautiously planning for a future where it’s safe for more people to join.
At Annand House LiveStream Lounge in Eugene you could explore:
- DJ Lessons
- DJ Sessions with professional audio recording
- DJ Sessions with professional LiveStream and video recording
- Sound healing / ambient sound bath
- Private Party for 1-3 with live DJ in the Lounge
- Private Party for 1-4 with live DJ streamed in from anywhere in the world
- Virtual Reality DJ-ing
- Dance Workouts

You still can enjoy Annand House Livestream Lounge! We will be broadcasting frequently on Twitch and other outlets
Eventually we’d like to offer:
- Regularly scheduled broadcasts by genre - house/techno/downtempo
- Live yoga to Live dj sets
- Virtual Soundbaths
- Artist interviews
- Panels and insight on the future of in-person dance gatherings
Where is this 8 foot by 12 foot room going to go?
We are leaving our current location in Eugene where we have management issues and a pending court case which keeps getting postponed by the court.
We are looking to downsize from 940 to about 300 square feet, cutting costs and streamlining the business for what we believe will be possible in the next year.
We found one we like and submitted an application earlier today,
Are there any incentives available to donors?
Yes! For this new project we want to keep it real specific.
Every $50 donated by a single person earns one hour use of the Lounge when it opens.

Here is a guidline to how money will be used:
Goal 1 = 2500 = Price of Sound Proofed Room (remember price is just 25% of its materials cost so we just got something amazing at a steep discount!
Goal 2 = 3500 = Price of Sound Proofed Room including transport from Las Vegas
Goal 3 = 3500+ = Excess will be used to invest in sound we own rather than borrow. We've been using a turbo system which is way too large. Want some Danleys in there bad :)
