Who are we?
Jennifer and Jessica Albright - We started the animal rights club on Missouri State University campus and the community group Animal Advocates of Springfield. We work together with different animal rescue groups, vegetarian/vegan clubs, and animal activist. We raise awareness through documentaries (Earthlings, Vegucated, What the Health, etc.), tabling events, protesting, social media, and other activities. As Animal Rights Club/Animal Advocates of Springfield Mo grew the public started reaching out and asking for our help on a variety of animal abuse cases. What’s the Plan?
Our plan is to provide rescued farm animals a forever home where they can be free and live out the rest of their lives. The rescued animals will be saved from various places that include, but are not limited to, factory farms, owners surrendering their animals or livestock auctions. Our first goal is to create a home-like atmosphere for the animals which include insulated barns, hay, equipment, etc. The rescued animals would be our main focus. After creating a forever home for the animals, we would open our sanctuary to the public to educate the public about the uniqueness of every animal at the sanctuary. We will share stories on how they were rescued and about the personality of the animals. Through these experiences, we are creating a more compassionate world for humans and animals. With extra funding, we are able to build insulated barns, vet bills, etc.
Future Goals for Sanctuary
As we begin to grow we will offer fun and engaging activities that will not only educate the public but also help us provide funds for the sanctuary. In the far future, we will have Vegan retreats in which people come to learn about veganism. The retreats will include a tour of the sanctuary as well as meet like-minded people. We will also host fundraiser such as “farm bingo”, summer camps to educate the students, and other events throughout the year. Along with adding education events at the sanctuary, we will create a forever home for unwanted cats and dogs as well.
Why in Willard, Missouri?
Willard is 10 minutes from Springfield, Missouri and 45 minutes from Branson, Missouri which is a high tourist location. In Willard, there are many farmlands in which they treat cattle like property. By having a sanctuary in Willard, we are able to raise awareness about farm animals and allow students (future farmers) to see animals as the kind, compassionate beings we know they are rather than just “meat”.
What if we do not reach our funding goal?
If we do not receive the funding goal, then 1 out of 2 things will happen. Depending on how much was raised the first plan is to find a smaller property. We will be able to save some animals but on a smaller scale. The second plan is to donate the money to an already existing farm sanctuary. The money you will be donating WILL GO TOWARD HELPING ANIMALS – no matter what.
