Angeles Workshop School is a tiny progressive school for grades 6-12 in Palms, CA. We focus on sustainable living, cultural knowledge, social justice, problem-solving and an authentic approach to learning. We are a diverse student body of all socio-economic backgrounds and ethnicities.
As a school committed to the community, we are invested in student-driven action. This includes:
a) monthly meal prep and donation for homeless youth,
b) student-built urban edible garden for public use
c) giving board placed at school frontage stocked with toiletry items and clothing donations,
d)new school-wide zero-waste initiative and plant-based nutrition program,
e) international micro-lending program for women in impoverished nations and ongoing child-sponsorship.
As you can imagine, it is quite difficult to sustain these robust programs, pay faculty, make our school financially accessible to all and plan to do even more!
Our dream is to move our tiny school from our current store-front incarnation to a more optimum facility with green space where students can expand their plant-based cooking, playing, gardening, building and learning. Furthermore, we hope to outfit our facility with an updated Computer Science, Multimedia and Robotics program.
Our last and most pertinent need is to better support our incredibily diverse student populaton with academic and travel scholarships. Angeles Workshop School boasts amazing diversity with 70% students of color and over 70 % students on financial aid.
In a nutshell we are looking to:
1. Fund academic scholarships.
2. Create a building and infrastructure fund.
3. Update our technology programs (Computer Science, Multimedia and Robotics specifically).
It is clear that we have big dreams but we have been incredibly blessed with a lovely and vital school community. Please support Angeles Workshop School. Your contribution will greatly benefit our growing learning community. Thank you!
