Angela's Fight Against ALS

Donation protected
In 2015 Angela Marciano Caracuel, was experiencing a lack of mobility in one of her hands.  The doctors originally thought it was Carpal Tunnel, then Rheumatoid Arthritis.  When it began affecting the other hand, the initial diagnoses were ruled out.  She was then sent to Columbia Presbyterian for advanced neurological testing.  Soon after, she received the devastating diagnosis of ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease and knew she was in for the battle of her life.  For those that are unfamiliar with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), it is the progressive degeneration of motor neurons in the brain ultimately leading to atrophy of all voluntary muscles. This results in complete paralysis, the inability to eat, and eventually breathe.

Angela dedicated her entire life to helping others as a school social worker, former PTA president, a cheerleading coach and a Girl Scout leader.  She is wife to Eloy and mother to Gabriella (18).

Angela’s condition currently requires a home health aide for 12 hours a day along with help from her family in order to perform basic tasks (i.e. showering, eating and getting dressed).  Within only two years, Angela has lost the ability to make most voluntary movements. Currently she is being fed through a feeding tube, and uses an eye gaze as her only form of communication. She requires the assistance of a Hoyer lift in order to shower and use the bathroom.   A handicap accessible van is needed in order for her to leave home.

Not only is ALS one of the most physically devastating diseases but also financially draining.  On average an ALS patient pays between $52,000 - $100,000 annually on just home health care. If you can find it in your heart to ease the financial strain on Angela and her family, they would be greatly relieved and would allow them to supply the necessary home care Angela needs.  Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
