                                                          Extended Rehab for Andy

This is our friend Andy Sparacino.  Andy is a talented rapper and a musician, (Blist, Helvis, and The A-Team) and is best known for playing party leader Tron, in the movie FUBAR. Before drug addiction took hold of his life, Andy was a gentle, and kind person. He was smart, perceptive and creative. He had many friends. He cared about his family, friends and those less fortunate. He could turn anything into art. We know that “soulful guy” is still here. We need your help to bring him back.

We’ve known Andy since High School. Many of us thought back then Andy was sure to make it big as an entertainer. He was always cracking jokes, making up rhymes and puns and trying to make people laugh. He improvised some of FUBAR’s best lines and quickly became a fan favourite. It’s been very hard watching the drugs destroy him.

Andy has been battling very serious intravenous drug addiction for well over a decade. As we get past some of the stigma of addiction and recognize it as a disease, for Andy it has come at a huge cost. From burning bridges with family and friends, to missing career opportunities, to broken relationships, arrests, and ultimately homelessness and living on the streets. He has suffered multiple life threatening blood infections and overdoses as a result of his addiction. He missed saying his final goodbye to his mother, Jean when she passed away suddenly from cancer in 2013. He has participated in several rehab programs over the years but sadly after a few months of sober living he returned to using.

Seven months ago, Andy was hospitalized with a life-threatening blood infection. He accepted the offer to participate in a detox and rehab program and get clean. Andy has now found a private rehab program in Nanaimo, B.C. funded by his dad George. The program focuses on building life skills and has brought Andy further along in his recovery than any other program has before.

He has since been clean and sober and following the program with only one relapse. His doctors and counsellors have recommended he participate in their extended care program.

The extended care program would offer Andy:
-Increasing healthy community and family support systems
-Solidifying relapse prevention skills in real world settings while living in a safe environment
-Advancing communication and life skills to support recovery
-Developing a structured aftercare plan to assist in transition to the community and everyday life
-Developing a life worth living, loving, and sharing

But George can no longer afford to pay for Andy’s participation. That’s where we thought we could offer support. These funds will go directly to covering the cost of the extended care program and not to Andy. We recognize that there are no guarantees of recovery. If you are not in a position to help, even words of encouragement and support will mean a great deal to him. To know we all believe in his recovery will boost his morale and motivate him towards a brighter future.
