Andrew, Betsy, and and 6-year-old Peyton are long time Marathon Florida residents. As Hurricane Irma approached the Florida Keys, Andy and his family packed up as much as they could into a car and fled to safety. On September 10th they received the devastating news that their home was lost. Due to unavoidable circumstances they were not able to obtain rental insurance. Andrew lost his car to the storm as well. Anyone who knows them will testify to the fact that they are the first to open their home to someone who needs a place to stay, or to help a neighbor or even stranger coping with tragedy. Their family embodies the welcoming spirit of the Florida Keys. If you can, imagine all of your belongings and precious keepsakes either gone or limited to what you were able to hastily pack in a car. Andrew and Betsy both work in the service industry and their income is obviously severely impacted due to the devastation that this hurricane has brought to the Florida Keys. True to their character they want nothing more than to return home as soon as possible and begin to rebuild their community in the slice of paradise they call home. Our goal is to help this family rebuild their community. We want help Andy and Betsy secure any supplies they need to help rebuild Marathon and the Florida keys. In Andys own words: "This is a very bleak time for all of us. I'll tell you one thing though, my sense of pride for our community shall never waiver-what makes the Keys great is our community. A lot of us have lost close to everything today, yet we still have each other. We shall rebuild and be stronger for it. #marathonstrong". Let's help Andrew and Betsy rebuild their community. This fund is set up by friends of Andy and Betsy from Pennsylvania and Penn State.
