About Me
My name is Andria Cooper and I am 41 years old. I am a mother of two daughters and a wife to a wonderful husband. My oldest child is 21, almost 22 years old and my youngest is 17. My oldest daughter lives approximately 650 miles away but is coming up periodically to assist us.
The last couple months I had been feeling under the weather but continued to participate in every day activities. I was coaching my youngest daughter's swim team at the time. We had gone to Winter Park the first week of August for my youngest daughter's birthday, in which I was not able to do much due to the pain I was in. Upon returning home from our trip I finally decided to go in to the hospital because the pain had become so unbearable.
Between visiting the hospital, a gastroenterologist and an OBGYN/cancer specialist I was told by several doctors that they were almost positive it was ovarian cancer due to the swelling (fluid retention) in my abdomen and other symptoms. Our family kept hope that it would be something of less severity during the time that they were doing tests.
Diagnosis and Treatment
The test results came back and as of August 14th, 2017 I was diagnosed with stage 3C Ovarian Cancer. I got my first chemo treatment on August 16th, 2017. The plan for my treatment is 9 weeks of chemotherapy, then surgery to remove the large cysts in my ovaries, followed by 9 more weeks of chemotherapy. On August 25th I will be undergoing surgery to have a port put in, which will be surgically removed at end, after I have completed my treatments. At my first chemo treatment I had to be stuck 9 times before the nurse could get my vein, as my veins kept collapsing. For those who don't know what a port is, it is a small device with a catheter that will be surgically placed so that the IV can be easily hooked up for each chemo treatment, avoiding the hassle of trying to stick my vein each time. For the duration of my treatment I will be going to scheduled doctor visits and check ups to monitor my blood count levels and condition of well-being.
How These Funds Will Be Used
All money raised through this campaign will be applied towards all medical bills for surgeries, office visits, lab tests, chemo treatments, etc... for Andria Cooper. Any and all money is appreciated! The pictures below of my stomach and the jars of fluid were taken the first time I had my abdomen drained, before I was officially diagnosed. Fluid has been accumulating in my abdomen and is being drained as needed. Before my first treatment of chemo it was about every 48 hours and since beginning treatment, the accumulation has slowed. They have drained about 2 or 3 liters each time. I lost about 30 pounds after one time of my abdomen being drained. This last time 3.5 liters was drained from my abdomen.
