UPDATE: ❤️ 

On behalf of Andrew and Nayla - we want to share our utmost gratitude for your continued thoughts, prayers, and generous contributions as well as provide a much needed update relating to the cause. 

After Andrew was admitted to the hospital on December 17, 2021 he would spend the next month sedated, heavily medicated and on a ventilator with a tracheostomy performed on December 28th due to his condition and the need for prolonged intubation. On the evening January 18th we were met with joyous celebration as Andrew was taken off of his vent awake but heavily medicated and by January 19th he was cognisant and aware of his surroundings and circumstances. 

Weeks of physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapy followed him as he was transitioned out of the ICU and moved to a Med Surg floor – he was so excited to pass his swallow test on January 24th and be able to eat on his own for the first time since his hospitalization. On January 31st Andrew was discharged as a patient from the hospital and transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation center within the hospital that he had spent the last month and a half in. We were surprised when day 2 brought his first couple of steps on his own. After his first week in rehab, he was able to walk stairs with help of his incredible therapy team, walk over 400 ft at one time, and perform his basic daily living activities with minimal assistance. 

The date is February 11th and he continues to exceed expectations in his rehab journey. We are so grateful for his amazing care team at Ascension that fought relentlessly to keep Andrew healthy and resilient through this process. His fight continues with a much brighter path ahead. Andrew still has a long road ahead of him and he is overwhelmed with the love and support that has come from this community that we have built through his journey.

My name is Maddi and I am fundraising for my cousin Nayla and her fiancé, Andrew, who is currently fighting COVID-19. Andrew is 30 years old. He had tested positive along with his fiancé, Nayla a little over a week ago. Within the last few days, it had become harder and harder on Andrew’s body resulting in an ambulance ride to the nearest hospital for immediate sedation and intubation. Upon arrival to the hospital, Andrew’s tests showed he has severe COVID-related pneumonia in both lungs. Andrew's condition is critical. He is on full life support for his lungs, heart, and kidneys.

 

Andrew’s care team (Doctors, nurses, etc) are not sure on the route of care Andrew will receive/need at this moment. He could be intubated on the ventilator for weeks or months.

 

This fundraiser is created for Andrew and Nayla to cover medical costs, gas, daily living expenses,  and monthly bills. Andrew had fallen ill so quickly, leaving all expenses on Nayla.

 

Andrew is the most selfless, kind, and caring person. This is one way we can help him and his family during this time. If you aren’t able to donate, prayers are ALWAYS welcome and appreciated. This is going to be a very long road to recovery for Andrew.
