Andrew's Scoliosis Treatment Fund

Imagine if you were 17 years old, already dealing with Autism on a day to day basis, and then a Doctor tells you that you are going to need major and invasive surgery for scoliosis. The Orthopedic Surgeon describes the surgery as an incision from shoulder to waist, completely opening the back and inserting rods to straighten the spine. Potential complications of the surgery include rods breaking, paralysis, immune dysfunction, severe lifelong pain and many more. One thing specifically noted by the surgeon, was the surgery is significantly more traumatic for children with autism because of the process and recovery.

Andrew was diagnosed with Scoliosis 2 years ago and was undergoing physical therapy. Due to a major growth spurt, Andrew's spine curvature has reached a dangerous point where drastic intervention is needed. Because of Andrew's fear of the surgery and the potential complications, we have decided to exhaust all other options. After doing thorough research, we have been able to identify medical practitioner's that offer cutting edge, non-invasive treatments for scoliosis.

One of the major treatment will be the requirement for Andrew to wear a brace for 22 hours a day for two years. The Doctors will be providing us with a special brace that will not interfere with his sensory issues, like most of the traditional scoliosis braces. Other treatment modalities include, EPIC spine correction, neurological balance and posture training, and individualized physical therapies/exercises. With this precise method of treatment, not only will it stop the progression, but will reverse the process as well; albeit not completely. This treatment offers a better outcome and healthy movement for his life.
As most people know these types of treatments are not paid for by insurance companies, and are out of pocket expenses. In conjunction with flights to see the doctors and hotel rooms, this treatment course has created a financial hardship for our family. We feel it will be worth it to offer Andrew a life without the pain of scar tissue and other post operative conditions.

Our goal is to raise 20 thousand dollars to help cover the costs for the two year intensive treatment. Your prayers and financial contributions are much needed to change Andrew's life for the better. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you in advance for the love and support! It's beyond greatly appreciated!!!
