Andrea and Syd are two of the best people we know. Earlier this year they were able to purchase their dream home in Bonny Doon, where they started building their life together. They adopted the cutest black lab, Maxx,* and were diligently renovating the house in anticipation of another addition to the family, a baby girl, who we will welcome in December.
Their journey has been rewritten in the last week. Flames from the CZU Lightning Complex have ravaged their neighborhood, decimating their home and everything they own.
While these two are some of the most resilient people we’ve ever met — and appropriately, the redwood forest they call home is especially robust — there are no words to truly illustrate the tragic impact of this event.
In this time of rebuilding and figuring out their next steps, having a stable financial foundation will help them immensely. Luckily, they had purchased fire insurance for their property. However, infrastructure repair is estimated to take up to a year, and it will likely be 2-3 years of construction before they can move back to their home. Having to pay both rent and mortgage payments means these funds will be spread thin. Not to mention, a diaper budget will be essential in just a few short months.
We know this year has been a real doozie. And things are not going to go back to ‘normal’ any time soon. But we know we can make it through stronger if we work together, so let’s help each other. We are deeply appreciative if you are able to contribute financially, any small or large amount. If you want to help in another way, there will be a lot of hands-on work to do in the coming years rebuilding their home, creating defensible space, and rebuilding trails. Or you can look for a baby registry once they figure out where they will live and what they need and have space for. Additionally, passing on this message would mean the world to us.
