Hi my name is Montana Rader. Like many, I was not a fan of Instagram in the beginning. However, when people started following me I happily followed them back. :) I was drawn to those posts regarding real life challenges and victories. I first became aware of Amy Brubaker in July 2016. As a fellow fashion stylist I enjoyed her posts of work and inspiration. Then one day she started documenting her fight against DCIS Breast Cancer. After a double mastectomy, Amy thought she would be cancer free. However, the biopsies found a second more aggressive form of breast cancer that required chemotherapy and three additional surgeries. During this time while Amy posted pictures of herself enduring chemo treatments and subsequent hair loss her sensational smile was ever present. By being so honest regarding her journey, Amy inspired me to greet my days with joy and appreciate all I have.
Amy is the mother of two beautiful children, Ruth and Floyd, ages 8 and 4. Her husband, Matthew, has been her rock! He took off as much time from his job as he could to care for her and their children while Amy battled on. Although she has completed her chemotherapy, Amy continues to deal with side effects from it and the medications while still undergoing active treatment.
As many of you know, once someone successfully beats cancer the next chapter isn’t simply relaxing and regaining your life back. Instead you must focus on the daily living expenses that have piled up and the mounting medical bills that continue to flood in. Amy hasn’t been able to work for over one year. It’s enough to stress her and her family all over again since they first heard the word CANCER. Amy told me “The stress on our family financially, mentally and physically has been great but we continue to try and stay positive. I remain dedicated to fighting this for myself and my family.” Now you see why I find her so inspiring!
