Amy Kcraget Burks Cancer Fight

Hi friends! We never thought we'd be typing a message on Go Fund Me, but when someone you love enters into the fight of their life you do whatever it takes to win. So, let me tell you about the story of Amy Burks and why we are raising money to help her beat this terrible disease. Amy is a devoted wife, a loving mother, an amazing "bun bun" to her grand daughter and one of the kindest, happiest humans you'll ever meet. For the past 5 yrs or so Amy decided to dive into fitness to be healthier for her family. This endeavor included roller derby, Orange Theory and joining a running team with a long-term goal to run in the Boston Marathon. Amy's Roller Derby career has seen her play all over the country including Hawaii and after years of hard work she recently made the Va Allstar team. Her running and hard work at Orange Theory have taken her down a road (literally) to running marathons, she has been training with an awesome running team for the past few years with the hopes of one day running in the Boston Marathon. Well, all of the dreams have been put on hold. Not long ago while training with her running team for a marathon Amy started to notice some discomfort in her shin, with a rigorous training schedule she tossed it up to typical muscle soreness or possibly a stress fracture in her shin. After a visit to the orthopedic doctor, it didn't take long to figure out there was something more serious going on. After a couple MRI's and a biopsy, it was determined that Amy has Melanoma cancer in her leg and needed a PET scan to determine if it had spread to any other portion of her body, Unfortunately, the results of the scan weren't the best of news for Amy and her family, the cancer was in numerous places throughout the body. So that's where we are at this moment. The Orthopedic doctor has scheduled surgery for next week to insert carbon fiber rods into her legs to help stabilize the bones that have become brittle from cancer, then it's immediately onto a horrible regimen of chemo and radiation. So as you can imagine the burden of the medical bills alone are already too much to bear with more to come, Please help us help Amy fight this horrible disease and one day be able to accomplish her dream of running the Boston Marathon. With your help, I have no doubt she'll get there.
