Amitabha Project, Southampton Buddhist Centre

Deducible
What is the Amitabha Project?

The Amitabha Project celebrates the 3 Jewels; Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, with a particular emphasis on the Sangha Jewel. The aim is to enhance our wonderful Buddhist Centre here in Southampton. The centre is now well established and after a long period of closure, our doors are open again to all events. With a growing Sangha, the project seeks to create a place that enriches our practice while providing a comfortable place to drink tea with spiritual friends.

What does the Amitabha Project involve?

The project involves re-creating and renovating several spaces at the centre. It will be approached in the following phases over the coming year.

Phase 1: Recreating the shrine room.
Phase 2: Rearrangement of the main entrance and installation of a display window.
Phase 3: Enhancement of the Kitchen area and facilities.

To complete the Amitabha Project we are looking to raise a total of £5,000. Phase 1: Recreating the shrine room is started and almost complete. It has already been kindly received by the many that have attended recent events.

How can I help?

Your help to raise the £5,000 target will ensure that this project is fully realised. It is a contribution to the present and future sangha as it continues to grow. There are 3 ways to contribute:

1. A personal donation.
2. Personal fundraiser
3. Join our fundraising team

Personal Donations.

We thank you in advance for your personal donations and kind acts of generosity. The Southampton Buddhist Centre has grown deep in our hearts, and you may be keen to give beyond our resources. This connection with our heart's longing can be embraced and our generous virtue to put it into action by considering a personal fundraiser or joining our fundraising team.

Interested in a personal fundraiser?

Create your fundraising page at GoFundMe that links to the Southampton Buddhist Centre charity (note: search the charity name Triratna Southampton). This helps us to help you with your fundraising. Contact us if you need assistance in setting this up. If you simply collect cash donations let us know so we are aware of your hard work.

Here are a few personal fundraiser ideas that might get you going. Consider how your fundraiser might deepen your practice. You will have many other ideas. Choose what works for you and what might inspire others.

Involve your family, friends, or colleagues.
Offer them a chance to practice generosity, even if it only starts a conversation about your practice or interest in Buddhism then that alone is something to celebrate.

Have a New Year cleanse.
The beginning of the year is always a great time for reviewing what, why and if we need it. Why not clean out some possessions sell them online or to friends and make a donation from these sales to the project.

Give something up.
Do you have the desire to give something up? Maybe you would like to do a little less of something? To help your commitment why not pledge to donate what would typically spend to the Amitabha Project. For example, if you were to give up smoking or having takeaway coffee each morning, donate what you might save. You could dedicate yourself to this for a set period of time.

Join our fundraising team

We would like to create a fundraising team to help organise and undertake several fundraising events. If you are interested in being part of a fundraising team, we would love to hear from you, contact us at the bottom of this page or speak to Ricky when you’re at the centre.

Want to know more?

A talk will be given by the makers of the new shrine room at the study group practice evening on Wednesday 2nd February and Saturday 5th February at Sangha morning 10am-12pm.
