Ami’s memorial & support Jai through his parenting journey

Hi everyone, my name is Tegan and I’m the sister of Jai, and SIL of Ami.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, 21st of April, my brother tragically lost his beautiful partner Ami.

Ami was the kindest, sweetest and most selfless person I have ever met. She unfortunately suffered from a complex medical condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome; a specific type that puts her at a very high risk of trauma given even the slightest injury or ailment.

Late last year, Ami and Jai learned that they were to become parents in 2024! For most people, this is an exciting journey, however given Ami’s medical condition they knew it would require close monitoring and caution throughout the pregnancy.

Ami was scheduled to have a c-section in just two days time to allow for a full medical team to be on standby and monitor the procedure should an emergency occur.

Tragically, Ami woke this morning to some unusual pains and multiple complications which called the need for an ambulance.

Despite the best efforts of the wonderful paramedic and medical team of GCUH Ami sadly and shockingly succumbed to the complication and passed away shortly before arriving to the hospital, she unfortunately could not be revived. Thankfully, the team were able to deliver Ami and Jai’s baby girl and she is being closely monitored by the NICU. Baby girl was however without oxygen for some time so the journey ahead is quite unknown and full of potential hurdles.

This has understandably completely broken our hearts, we are all so shocked and my brother is now trying to navigate the next steps of solo parenting while also mourning the love of his life.

In order to ease the burden of financial obligations I have organised this fundraiser to allow him to tend to the needs of his baby girl, organise Ami’s memorial, and hopefully not have to concern himself with work again before he is ready.
