American Lung Association in honor of Cindy

It has been 10 years since I saw my beautiful mother's face. 10 years since I was able to call her and ask for laundry or cooking tips. 10 years since we laughed til we cried.

Lung cancer took my mom at just 57. After she spent her whole life taking care of everyone around her, working day in and day out...she was finally set to relax and enjoy life, and lung cancer robbed her of that.

After she died, I promised myself I wouldn't wait. For anything. I would take hold of life and do all the things, even if I was scared.

Climbing a 14er is scary for me. Bad knees with the lungs of a former smoker, asthma, high blood pressure, among other things, has kept me from even attempting one.

But in this tenth year without my mom, I feel compelled to tackle this challenge. And I hope to call on her courageous spirit as I face these challenging hikes.

I will climb these mountains... because she cannot.
