American Ice Theatre NYC donations ‘19-20 season

Donation protected
Hi everyone!

We started another campaign after a success of our last Campaign “AIT NYC goes to US Open”. The donations helped us a lot with our travel and accommodation in California for 3 days.

Our biggest challenge about growing this company is: getting ice time. It is hard to skate in a group of 4 or 5 people during public or let alone freestyle session. Most ice rinks don’t allow us to skate in groups or try our programs.

In the summer, we do not skate at all because the rink we skate at temporarily closes. With the challenges we have at other rinks, in terms of trying to skate in groups, renting private ice is our only other option. Renting the ice is very expensive in NY. It ranges from $400-600 per hour, and we have to book them in advance especially during hockey season.

It is really sad because as a growing company, we need to maintain our skills by practicing on a regular basis as a group, and also have the ability to invite more people to be involved in the company.

All of us are skating coaches, and we pay out of pocket to pay for practice ice, transportation, costumes, etc. At the same time, we are not getting paid to perform at the local rinks, plus we have to cancel our lessons when we are performing.

With this fundraiser, we want to expand our budget. This will mainly involve covering ice time costs for when our regular rink opens up, and possibly private ice from time to time. After ice time is covered, we will look into what we need for costumes, and travel expenses.

To give you a better understanding of the finances of what we do, here’s a breakdown of our expenses from last year.

-$10-$20 per person once a week for a public session in Great Neck, NY at the Andrew Stergiopolous Ice Rink. $10 once a week for our season was roughly $400 per person. For the couple months we were skating twice a week, that adds another 200 to our total making it roughly $600 per person for the season.
-$50 per person per costume. Last year we had two costumes, and we each roughly paid $100.
-$370 plane tickets for U.S. Open, in the spring that was held in Palm Springs, California.
-$650 for an Airbnb for 4 people for 3 days.
-$30 registration fee per person for U.S. Open.

All in all, per person, we are looking at an easy $1000 for last season. This doesn’t include, skate sharpening, individual practice ice, extra training that we all do outside of skating to keep up our skills (dance classes, taking lessons, off ice, etc.), travel expenses around NY, or travel meals.

We realize skating is a very expensive sport and art to be involved in, which is why we are very aware of the financial responsibility we will still take on as members of this company.

Currently, we are working on a sponsorship/partnership proposal to get a sponsor to fund the growth of our company, so we can have a the ability to have more skaters and practice time. As you can see, alongside our endeavor to get sponsors; we have created another funding campaign here! If you would like to see more of AIT NYC, so we can keep inspiring skaters and creating contemporary art, please consider donating.

All donations are highly appreciated. If you would like to give a different type of donation, or if you have any questions, feel free to contact Kiki directly.

Thank you so much for your time, and we look forward to hearing from you, and/or meeting you at a show this coming season!!!
