Amber's Capstone Project Fund

Hi! My name is Amber and I'm raising money to help secure funding for 10 people to participate in getting their SHRM Workplace Mental Health Ally Certificate. This certificate equips people with critical mental health knowledge and actionable step to help someone or themselves during difficult times. Back in September, I had to opportunity to attend the Annual SHRM Conference. While I was there a heavy topic that was discussed was mental health in the workplace, and I was introduced to this new certificate that SHRM was offering. As someone who has multiple family members struggling with mental illness, this topic struck close to home. When I got back from the conference, we had an incident with one of the students in my major. Everyone is pretty close in this department so it was a hard time for everyone. Having recently learned about this certificate I got with my professor, Tom Mobley, and wanted to let the HR community around us know about this new certificate. He was completely supportive of this idea. A few days later he had me call him and came up with the idea to make this my capstone project. As a junior, you don't normally take the capstone until your last semester in your senior year, but we wanted to get this up and going as soon as possible. We got approval from my advisor and the professor of the capstone course for me to get started early, and are officially approved to go ahead and take the course this spring semester. I want to work with 10 students from the University of Cincinnati, go through these modules, and earn their certification. The certification course/modules are $99 per person so we need $1,000 to fund those people. Our goal is to meet Monday nights in February, in person hopefully, to go through the modules of the certificate together. We want to build community by doing this together. This certificate can give people insight into the best way to help those struggling with mental health. Upon completion of the modules, the participants will earn certification and a digital badge which they can place in their signature block to let people know that they are a safe person to talk to when it comes to issues related to mental health, suicide prevention, substance abuse, and diversity. I would be so grateful for any help with funding for this project! If you would like to learn more about this certificate visit WorkplaceMentalHealth.shrm.org.
