Amalia needs a Thymus Transplant

Hello, my name is Valeria Garrido and I am raising funds for the treatment, transfer and stay of my niece.

Amalia is 1 year and 9 months old, she suffers from a rare, uncommon and fatal disease (if she does not receive treatment) called Congenital Athymia. Due to this disease, her immune system is not able to generate the necessary defenses to fight diseases or infections.

In Chile, the country where Amalia has been hospitalized since birth, there is no treatment for this pathology.

Thymus transplant is performed only in 2 countries in the world, the United States and England. The survival rate exceeds 75% when receiving a thymus transplant.

As an aunt and healthcare worker, I would like to raise awareness about the importance of counselling, guiding and supporting all families living with a diagnosis of a rare or uncommon disease. Due to its high cost, poor accessibility and non-existent coverage for all children in Chile.

I sincerely appeal to your hearts to assist us in saving Amalia's life.

Hola, mi nombre es Valeria Garrido y estoy recaudando fondos para el tratamiento, traslado y estadía de mi sobrina.

Amalia tiene 1 año y 9 meses, sufre de Atimia congenita, enfermedad rara, poco frecuente y mortal si no recibe tratamiento, ya que su sistema inmune no es capaz de generar las defensas necesarias para combatir enfermedades o infecciones. En Chile donde está hospitalizada Amalia desde su nacimiento no existe tratamiento para esta patología. Sólo en 2 países en el mundo se realiza el trasplante de Timo, EEUU e Inglaterra. Su porcentaje de sobrevida supera el 75% al recibir su Timo.

Como tía y funcionaria del área de salud me gustaría crear conciencia sobre la importancia de guiar, orientar y apoyar a todas las familias que viven con un diagnóstico de alguna enfermedad rara o poco frecuente. Debido a sus altos costo, poca accesibilidad e inexistente cobertura para todos los niños en Chile.
