Hello. My name is Amad Amedy, and I am a rising senior in the Academy of Engineering at John Overton High School. The purpose of this campaign is to gain assistance in meeting a funding gap in program costs for Harvard’s Secondary School Program (SSP). I have been accepted to this prestigious seven-week summer program based on my strong academic performance. I work full-time to help support my parents and myself, and owning to difficult financial circumstances, I am unable to contribute much.
The Harvard summer program is a great opportunity for me to earn 8 college credits (accepted almost anywhere), take ACT/SAT test taking and college essay writing workshops, experience the workload and visit my top choice college, receive college counseling from Harvard admissions officers, set up a private soccer tryout, interact with students who challenge me from around the world, and enjoy a summer dedicated to learning. My future career plan is to become a general practitioner and the summer program offers two semesters worth of science, which will give me a head-start on my pre-med major.
Program Cost: $11,000
Financial Aid Earned: $7,100
Funding Gap/Amount Needed: $3,200 (Includes transportation, room and board, meal plan, classes, and books. Any extra funding will go towards cost of living there)
Getting the opportunity to study at Harvard is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and It is my dream to go there for college. This program is a step in the right direction, and as part of my experience at Overton, I have learned that the the community always finds ways to help public students achieve their dreams.
