Alyssa's Butterflies Go Fund Me Page has been created to support a young lady named Alyssa Winston and help her with daily struggles as she battles illnesses that build upon one another.
Alyssa's Journey:
Growing up, Alyssa was a child who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, dancing, and helping others. As she approached adulthood, her passion for dance continued as did her passion for helping those with disabilities. While her dreams of attending college and continuing her desire to help others and dance neared, her struggles began.
In 2016, towards the end of her high school career Alyssa's health took a turn. While preparing for her Senior Prom, she passed out. From there, the journey began.
Not long afterwards, Alyssa was diagnosed with Lupus. At her age, the severity of her illness and affects it had on her body was life altering. Through many doctor visits in attempts of getting this debilitating disease under control, more problems arose and the severity of those problems grew. Before too long, Alyssa began battling a serious disease called gastroparesis, an incurable disease at this time, which causes the stomach muscle to stop functioning. Her only option is trial drugs, not approved by the FDA, and therefore not approved by insurance. As the combination of these illnesses "merged" and medications increased, so did other ailments, including acid reflux, IBS, fibromyalgia, Meibomian gland dysfunction, ITP ( low platelets), Superventricular Tachycardia, Atrioventriclar nodal reentrant Tachycardia, Urinary track infections, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, temporomandibular joint disorder, benign lipomatous neoplasm of the skin, subcutaneous tissue of the skin, fibrosis and scares of the skin, gastroesophageal reflux disease, just to name a few.
Now on 17 medications in attempts to keep the worse of the problems under control, Alyssa's organs are taking a toll. Recently, Alyssa endured a heart surgery after being rushed by ambulance twice. Her heart had to be stopped and then restarted. Kidneys and other organs are also being affected.
Alyssa and her family take it day by day in hopes for a cure and solution to the awful effects Lupus has left. Keeping a positive outlook on life, her faith in God, and yet realizing there is such a tough road ahead, Alyssa pushes through each day.
Amongst many doctors appointments, her inability to eat as she used to, be in the sun, drive, continue her passion to dance and help others, and the list goes on, support is needed. Support consists of so much more than just emotional, or physical, or financial. It's a combination of all. With the rising costs of medications, the lack of coverage from insurance, and the time her parents must spend away from work in order to take care of Alyssa, Alyssa's Butterflies was created.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 for the care Alyssa needs that she is unable to receive, assist with the cost of medications needed, provide an outlet for emotional support, and aid Alyssa and her family in finding a solution to get Alyssa back to her old self! Just today, Alyssa's much needed infusions were pushed back due to insurance difficulties.
