Alvin & Virginia ~ Rebuilding Hope

Defying the Odds
Alvin & Virginia aren't the typical married couple next door. They are adults with "differing abilities" (intellectual disabilities) whose home was ravaged uninhabitable by Hurricane Irma's flood waters. They are humble and giving citizens and their life story is one of love, hardwork, hardship, and honesty.  They need help.
Hope Greater Than Despair
The interior of their home is destroyed. Completely uninhabitabe. Reconstruction is seemingly a hopeless situation--given their circumstances--but they never have lived defined by limitations. The hope they have in God and the outpouring of generousity, support, and love of others is proving greater than their despair.  And so we continue to hope and look for help.

Their Love Story
Alvin & Virginia fell in love and married 37 years ago.  They worked hard and honestly for over 30 years --mopping floors and washing dishes at nearby businesses -- to be as independent as possible.  With the guidance of case workers, they saved a little nest egg to purchase a small bungalow.  A home of their own. They take no vacations. Their home has been their place of respite, especially in retirement.

What the Funds Are For
They need help mmediately. They had no flood insurance. FEMA has been called, but it could take months for any funds to become available and they really can't wait that long.  This gofundme account is to fund the reconstruction of their home, and if any funds are left, to replace modest furnishings.  Donations of materials and services are being sought.  PuroClean donated the removal of all the damage, and now it is time to rebuild.  Designer Lifestyles is donating flooring and management of the rebuilding project.  We still are still seekign businesses willing to donate construction materials and services. We need you, people who are moved to help this couple who has never asked for a handout, but are in great need of help right now.

Thank you for taking the time to read Alvin and Virginia's story.
