Hi! I'm Danhel Fajardo and I have set up a GoFundMe account for my mother, Helen Fajardo. I ask that you please take the time to listen to what I'm about to tell you--more importantly, what my family and I would be asking from you.
Three years ago, my mother, Helen Fajardo, became ill. It started with her hands and feet going numb & weak most of the time--she often described the pain as if there were pins and needles constantly pricking her. Then her whole body, most especially her lower body, became extremely weak & fatigued—to the point that she has lost her ability to walk, to stand, and to even move her legs. She also suffers from generalized pain (in addition to her neuropathy). Overtime, it became difficult for her balancing her upper body and moving her arms & neck due to stiffness. Her speech is improving, but there are times when it would be slurred/it's obvious that she's having a hard time breathing & speaking. As for her feet and legs, She can wiggle her toes, feel touch/pain, temperature changes.
We immediately went to the hospital to get some answers & help, with hopes that it was nothing serious and that she would recover in weeks, at the most. This was in 2014—It has been three years. Three years of endless and relentless hospital procedures and confinements. She would spend months in different hospitals, from San Mateo Medical Center to Stanford Hospital. She now has an entire team of doctors and medical professionals who continue to work together to diagnose her & find the appropriate & proper treatment. She has gone through constant, numerous tests/scans/procedures: MRI's, Spinal taps, PET/CT scans, blood tests, x-rays, a biopsy, etc. Every time she is given any of these tests, the results would always turn out to be negative. Leaving everyone at a loss every time.
There have been many, different interventions/treatment her doctors have tried/performed, but none have been effective (in regards to her disability). They've sent her to physical + speech therapy/rehabilitation, treated her with localized chemotherapy (successful in killing cancer, unrelated to her disability), and even sent her to several infusion centers for weeks (IV steroids, IVIG). For three years now, she continues to take a scary amount of different medicines--painkillers, anti-cancer drugs, a muscle relaxant, blood-thinners, diabetic medicine, etc.
Up to this day, my dad, sister, and I are responsible for taking care of her—cleaning her, changing her diaper, lifting her from bed to wheelchair, preparing her food, taking her to her appointments, & giving her medications. It has not been easy, especially for my dad who is taking care of her almost all the time.
Recently, both of my parents decided that they want to live peacefully in the Philippines and leave the US with my little sister. My parents believe that it's time to go beyond western medicine, and seek alternative treatment/medicine that is exclusive to the Philippines/this side of the world.
My dad started the construction of a house in a little farm he purchased back in 2014. We were led to believe that this house is 100% complete & livable, however, due to an unexpected familial altercation, the house is not complete and is not livable (I've attached photos of the current state of the house, it's still under construction).
By helping to reach the goal of this fundraiser, you would be able to help my family meet their needs as follows:
* Help to expedite the completion of the construction of the house
* Help cover the cost of her hospital bed
* Help cover the cost of some of her medicine
* Help cover the cost of her current treatment & physical therapy + treatment/consultations (alternative method)
* Help to purchase necessary, basic house appliances
Dollar currency goes a long way in the Philippines. The $10,000 we're fundraising would convert to at least ₽498,460 (with today's currency). This amount is surely helpful to anybody. My family and I ask you to please help us reach the goal of this fundraiser so that my mother will be able to get the help she needs and live a comfortable & peaceful life in the Philippines.
