After the amazing success of our Garage Concert Videos series, which connected us with new and loyal audiences locally and all over the world, we decided it was time to embark on a new adventure. Most of us expected that the worst of the pandemic would have passed by now, but sadly the news is not good, and the restrictions that limited live music performance are beginning to return all over the world. Even though that horizon has receded a bit further away, it's still in sight, and Ensemble Altera's mission is to fill this uncertain and challenging time with beauty everywhere that we can.
Christmas is a magical time of year, reacquainting us with emotions that we often lose touch with. We as artists are first and foremost servants of music, but we are also conscious of our role in serving our audience and our wider community. That's why we've decided to record a series of Christmas music videos full of these emotions - wonder, solemnity, mystery, hope, joy, wisdom, healing, and comfort. The program I've devised includes many familiar favorites like 'Silent Night', 'Away in a Manger', ' O Come All Ye Faithful', 'Hark! The Herald Angels Sing', 'I Wonder as I Wander', 'Ding Dong Merrily on High', 'The Holly & The Ivy', and 'Lo How a Rose', as well as a collection of less familiar but delectable selections.
Along with our talented video and audio production team, our musicians will create four episodes or mini-concerts, which will be released throughout the month of December, each on a different theme for the season: The Promise, Evergreen, Christmas Night, and Christmas Morning. It is our hope that these videos will help fill the hole left by canceled concerts, carollers, Messiahs, and religious services. Every day we seem to be surrounded by increasing conflict and crisis, and I believe this year it's that much more important to help and protect each other through the coming dark months. What we're creating is music of insight, compassion, honesty and beauty, and we simply need more of it.
So would you consider helping us in our mission? We need to raise money for transport, music, audio, video, venue, as well as, most importantly, modest compensation for the artists who still cannot return to work as usual and probably will not be able to do so for many months. They are hurting, and I want to do whatever I can to channel as much help their way as possible. Performers need hope, much as their audiences do, and your generosity is a way of showing them how much you value what they do.
Perhaps you can support this cause as a Christmas gift for someone you know in the group, or you can think of it as a charitable donation. This time around, we'd like to recognize any contribution over $50 with a small gift of appreciation to you. For those able to give at least $50, you will receive downloadable links to a high-fidelity audio album version of our recordings. This will arrive to you at the beginning of December, and it would be perfect to play around the house, for friends, to entertain guests, listen to in the car, use in your place of business, or even to give as a gift to a music lover. We're also looking to partner with small businesses who may wish to help sponsor our videos, and we are able to offer them something in return, so please contact us to let us know if your business or another business you know may be interested!
