Medical Fund - ALS Patient

Donation protected

My parents have always been there for me and I wanted to do something for them that would take some of the financial stress off of their shoulders. So I set up this Go Fund Me account so that people can donate to help them out.

It's been a difficult year for the family. My Mom's job was eliminated at the trucking company she worked for, at present she has not found a replacement. Throughout this, My step-dad, Allan MacPhee was having health issues that they had no answers for. Their beloved Dog passed away! Not a great year.

In October of 2014 the diagnosis came; ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. A shock to us all, Allan had to resign from his long term career.  We don't know what the future holds, but we do know there are bills, renovations, medicines, aids that will be required that will still cost them some out of pocket. All of these aids, come as a need for a person with ALS. The most simple tasks that we do daily are a struggle for a person with ALS. Shower & bath tub accessories to try and prevent slips and falls, ramps, lift chair for the stairs inside, elevator lift, wheelchairs, power chairs, modifying vehicles for equipment. If the ALS society has equipment they loan it. Installs/renovations are at the expense of the patient. The travel meetings & consultations with the medical experts, the realization that things are going to change and the expense that comes along with these charges can be astounding.

Right now one of the main focuses is a residential vertical lift and the renovations that are needed to accomodate the lift. This is so Allan can go inside & outside. He wont be able to do the stairs so the lift will attach to the outside of the house and lift him to the main floor where a door needs to put in. Other focuses are travel expenses to medical appointments within Saint John & Fredericton. Also bathroom renovations so they can have a lift into the bath tub and to make sure that the doorways are wide enough for a wheelchair.

This disease is ruthless & mean!
We are praying for a cure!!
