Alma's Cervical Cancer Treatment

Daughter, sister, partner and friend. A loving, sensitive, silly and caring 38 year old young woman, Alma is the sunshine in the lives of the people in her life.
Ambitious and independent, Alma was living life on her terms, when after consulting with a doctor for a PAP smear, her biopsy results were misplaced by the laboratory leading to an eight month’s long delay in her initial misdiagnosis. Alma continued to live her life, beginning a new relationship and settling into a new job that she loved at a psychotherapy counseling center when subsequently she was diagnosed with stage 1B1 Cervical Cancer and was advised that the course of treatment would include a radical hysterectomy with the possibility of radiation and chemotherapy. Following a successful surgery, pathology results showed that 1 out of 25 lymph nodes removed tested positive for cancerous cells and that she would have to further endure 5 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy.
Alma has been supported by family and friends throughout her diagnosis, surgery and recovery. Unfortunately even with insurance, high co-pays, deductibles and mounting bills from having to take medical leave from work are adding up. Fiercely independent, it is difficult for Alma to ask for help so we will do it for her. The goal of this Go Fund Me page is to help Alma with her medical and life expenses while she battles cancer. Additionally it is important to Alma that this page serves as a tool for raising awareness for cervical cancer and the failing health care industry. We will regularly post to this page updates about Alma's health and recovery as well as information regarding cervical cancer symptoms and prevention, self-advocacy and how to navigate the health care industry.
