All year-round Brendan's Den
This fundraiser is to raise funds for “Brendan’s All year-round den”. This den will be for Brendan, a 28 yrs. old man who has Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy, that-has put him in a wheelchair, using a ventilator to help him breathe.
Due of the nature of this disease, Brendan feels the cold more than someone else. A chest infection would have serious consequences for him.
This means he is housebound from end of September to end of March every year.
He is becoming isolated and unable to meet friends, lads, and girls, who-have similar disabilities who he has known most of his life, because there are no facilities available to allow this in Northern Ireland.
We have sourced a canopy/gazebo from White Pavilions, North Yorkshire, which measures 6x3 metres with side panels, is hurricane and rainproof, and accommodates heating and lighting.
The idea is to create Brendan’s Den, which he can use all year round, out in his back garden which is wheelchair accessible. We will install a projector and iPad, from where he will be able to watch football and films. Use Alexa and Spotify will provide music.
Brendan wants to be able to invite his friends to gatherings, in a safe, warm accessible environment, where they would be able to socialise, thus stopping the isolation for half a year that he currently experiences.
This GoFundMe initiative is to raise £6800 to purchase a 6 x 3 metre permanent gazebo with roofing, side panels, heaters, and lighting. We have a joiner friend who is willing to put this up for us. It would be great if we could have this done before the winter arrives.
