Hi, my name is Aliyah. I am a transgender Pakistani Muslim teenage girl.  First off I want to thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I also want to put a trigger warning on my story as I am going to discuss abuse, transphobia and sex trafficking.

I came out as transgender to my family when I was fifteen, due to their religious and cultural backgrounds this was significantly difficult for them to accept. There were constant arguments that lead to police involvement, many times ending with me being arrested and put into juvenile hall/ or psychiatric facilities. At these facilities my gender identity was rarely respected and I was housed with males, which subjected me to constant sexual harassment. Eventually I was put into the foster care system and exposed to a world that no child should ever be exposed to. I witnessed abuse, child sex trafficking, and almost became a trafficking victim myself. I would routinely be followed and occasionally even chased by pimps who were aware of the fact that I am a underaged trans girl who’s whereabouts no one was concerned of. This was the lowest most scariest part of my life. I don’t really talk about this time but i am sharing this with you all to educate you on the struggles that transgender youth face.

Thankfully I am doing a lot better and am on extended visits with my family. However my dependency court case remains open as I am unable to return to my family’s custody.

I am not asking for your pity but what I am asking for is your support, specifically monetary support. I need help raising funds for my Vocal Feminization Surgery. My voice is one of the few things I feel remains holding me back from feeling like my true self. There’s no easy way to put it, your girl sounds like a man. This has hindered me from gaining employment, has outted me in public putting me in dangerous situations not to mention the effects hearing my own voice has on my mental health. I’m constantly reading comments about how I’ll never be a woman because I sound like a dude and as much as I try to not let it get to me, it does. I know this surgery would change my life for the better.

I’ve scheduled a consultation with a vocal surgeon who gave me an estimate of $10,000 for the operation. The consultation itself is $650. Also for complete transparency I want to add that awhile ago I had changed my goal because I found a provider for laser hair removal that took my insurance however they’ve been completely booked for the next few months so i’m raising my goal again to include costs for both vocal feminization surgery and full body laser hair removal.

Your support would have a momentous effect on my life. Whether you are able to donate or not I can not express the gratitude I have for you for taking the time to read my story.

Thank you so much,
Aliyah A (@thetransmuslim)
