ALISHA’S JOURNEY TO RECOVERY

Donation protected
“If Hell were a clinical medical condition, it might look something like reflex sympathetic dystrophy or RSD (CRPS).”  - Tom Haederle, Johns Hopkins University

For the last seven years, Alisha has been suffering with a diagnoses of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) aka reflex sympathetic disorder (RSD).  Knee surgery in 2010 triggered CRPS and has resulted in life disrupting chronic pain.  Once a working mother, juggling several community volunteer projects, Alisha is now on disability unable to work and take on the volunteer projects she loves.   Her every day quality of life has been interrupted with severe pain.

We, friends and family of Alisha Elischer, are reaching out to ask for help in covering expenses for medical treatment.

CRPS is a rare (1 in 200,000) disease affecting both the Central Nervous and Autoimmune systems.  For many, it is limited to a single limb.  Unfortunately, Alisha’s disorder has spread to over 70% of her body. During the last seven years, she has undergone numerous tests, explored several methods to treat the disease and reduce the pain associated with CRPS.  Physical therapy, Psychological therapy, acupuncture, massage, trigger point therapy, changes in diet, and a five-day Ketamine treatment have neither cured nor stabilized the disease.  Pain medication like Vicodin, Norco, and Morphine, could not keep up with the level of pain she experienced and were not conducive to a safe and healthy life style.

Alisha has hope for a normal life again after learning of the work being done at by Dr. Katinka van der Merwe at The Neurological Relief Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  Dr. Katinka has devoted her life to helping people with Central Nervous System disorders and has been successful in helping over 300 patients with CRPS achieve long term remission.

Alisha will need to spend 10 weeks in Arkansas.  Treatment, lodging and transportation will cost nearly $25,000. Medicare does not cover any part of this. So far she has been able to scrape together $7250 so the remaining is needed through fundraising.  The wait list for the program is typically 6 months however since Alisha is willing to spend the holidays away from home she is able to take advantage of an opening on December 4th.  She will need to be in Arkansas until mid-February.

It is difficult for Alisha to ask for help.  She has taken pride in her ability to care for herself financially.  We are asking for your help for our friend/sister.  She has always been one to help others, now she needs help.  Please help her be well again by donating through this gofundme page or contributing directly to her account on Venmo or payal:
