Alimenta la Solidaridad - Venezuela

Dear Friends,
It has been a long time and quite a journey for Alimenta La Solidaridad. I wanted to give an update as I was able to visit a comedor in Catia during the month of August 19. It is hard to put in words what you feel: a mix of gratefulness, sadness, hope, courage… I took my two young children with me; I want to teach them to always be generous and show solidarity with those in need. I was amazed how the program is growing and how many lives is touching.
I started supporting this program in December 2016 when the program had only six “comedores” in Caracas. During my visit I learned that the program has now 148 “comedores” in 13 states. That is 11,300 children able to have at least one meal per day, 1,500 mothers working as volunteers and +400 mothers trained to assist with collateral situations. I am proud of what Roberto Patiño and his team have achieved. Their service, their commitment, their resilience and the size of their hearts are an example to the world.
I chose to support this program and help them spread the word because I was able to see a strong model for the touched communities, and a team already starting to make a difference. Alimenta La Solidaridad is not only feeding children, it is helping re-build values of responsibility and solidarity in different communities. Most importantly, it is involving the communities in solving their problems.

We started the fund aiming to raise $5,000, which we surpassed in only a couple of months. The worldwide generosity and solidarity have been breathtaking. Without much publicity, just word of mouth, we have raised +$20,000 since then.
Unfortunately, Venezuela has not resolved its problems yet and it will be quite a while until it does. In the meantime, we can help protect an entire generation that will be vital for the future of the country. We can help protect with something as small as a plate of food every day. The challenge is now to reach the $30,000 bar.
