Alex McPhee is facing the biggest fight of her life. She has been diagnosed with Inoperable Stage 4 Cervical Cancer.
If you met Alex McPhee, you would be struck by her warmth and beautiful smile. You would also consider yourself lucky to have the honour of meeting such a joyful, caring, humble, vibrant, optimistic and loving 42-year-old woman and mum. She always manages to giggle and smile, even during the pouring rain. Alex is a resilient, fighting farm girl who always puts everyone else first. Now we need to put Alex first! She needs our support, love and encouragement as she battles cervical cancer yet again.
Alex's battle so far...
- Alex was first diagnosed with cervical cancer in late 2016, aged 36. Alex underwent surgery for this, which at the time was deemed successful. So successful that in 2018, Alex and Marty welcomed their precious son, Jack, into the world.
- 2021 took a downhill turn when Alex was hospitalised due to an issue with her left kidney. After undergoing numerous tests, it was then revealed that her cancer had returned and spread to surrounding organs. Alex was then diagnosed with stage 4 reoccurring cervical cancer. September 2021, Alex commenced Chemotherapy and Radiation therapy.
- February 2022, Alex, and the family received the tremendous news she had been waiting for… Alex was given the all clear!
- Three months later, May 2022, Alex had a routine follow-up PET scan which revealed that the cancer had returned and spread once again. Alex was diagnosed with Inoperable Stage 4 Cervical Cancer.
- Treatment options at this advanced stage of cervical cancer are extremely limited and more research and support is needed to create better outcomes and results for patients.
- Alex’s only treatment option now is a combination of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy. Not only is this treatment very taxing on the body, but it is also expensive, and Immunotherapy is partially considered a trial drug. This means it is not listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme (PBS) in Australia. Unfortunately, the extra costs and other ongoing treatment must be paid in full by the patient. This is why we are raising funds to help Alex and other women who suffer from advanced cervical cancer and to bring better treatments to them.
All of the proceeds from the GoFundMe page will be used towards the following:
- Medical costs involved for Alex to receive the best treatment she can with Immunotherapy, Chemotherapy and/or any other drugs required to help fight this battle. Also, it is not just the treatment costs, but all the other medical costs involved such as testing, medical scans, and Specialist’s bills.
- Full-time care support for her beautiful 4-year-old son, Jack.
- Living and support costs to assist her partner, Marty, to have more time to be by Alex's side. Additional to this, it is a loss of income while Alex cannot work.
- Research and Development into Cervical Cancer Treatment.
At the moment it is estimated that this latest treatment of chemo and immunotherapy along with other associated expenses will cost anywhere between $100,000 and $200,000 depending on how Alex responds. If successful, treatment will continue for up to 2 years.
Alex and Marty are in remarkably high hopes that this treatment will work as there is no other option! Alex has an amazing, fighting spirit and optimistic mind. Despite the body aches, infections and ill feeling; Alex is strong and will keep fighting this battle for herself, her family and other women with similar fates.
