Alexander Eiber Arldt, age 23, passed away on Wednesday, September 11th, 2019 in Austin, Texas where he had recently started a Master’s of Engineering program at the University of Texas. Alex was born August 23rd, 1996 in Asheville, North Carolina. He was the son of Brian Keith Arldt (born in Houston, Texas) and Jill Teren Eiber Arldt (born in Columbus, Ohio) and sister of Abigail Eiber Arldt born in Asheville, NC June 21st, 1995.
Alex graduated from NC State University in December 2018 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering, graduating summa cum laude. He attended Asheville Christian Academy for high school, graduating in 2014 as co-valedictorian. Alex worked extremely hard to excel academically and was excited to continue his studies at the University of Texas at Austin where he was pursuing a Master's degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering. Over the past two summers, Alex worked for Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, NM doing web development for an inventory system. He continued his work with Sandia, working remotely during the spring and this fall and had recently been invited to participate in a research project between Sandia and the University of Texas on behalf of the Department of Defense related to complex, multivariable decision making.
Alex had a great sense of adventure, spending a semester in Germany in 2017 where he was able to travel across Europe. While in Albuquerque, he spent weekends traveling with friends across the southwest. He has also recently traveled to both Mexico and Canada with close friends that he met at Camp Michigania in northern Michigan. Camp Michigania, a family camp associated with the University of Michigan, held a very special place in Alex’s heart. Not only did he spend a week there each summer while growing up, in recent years he worked as a camp counselor and member of the boating staff for two summers where he developed a love for sailing. It was also at Michigania where Alex developed some of his closest and most meaningful friendships among those he worked with. Alex was an Eagle Scout, an accomplished high school rower, worked as a teaching assistant at both NC State and the University of Texas and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and School.
Alex is survived by his parents, Brian and Jill Arldt from Asheville NC, his sister, Abby Arldt currently residing in Winston-Salem, NC, his grandparents, Harvey and Pat Arldt from Taylors, SC and Bob and Carol Eiber from Columbus, OH.
A memorial service and celebration of Alex’s life will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 11:00 am at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Asheville, North Carolina. Please join us in a celebration of Alex’s life.
