We are asking for assistance to help in funding for medical expenses for my husband Alex. We are a small family with our 3 daughters and grandson.
Alex first noted blood in his urine in early June 2015. The Cytology examination reported aggressive papillary urothelial carcinoma.
He was treated by the urologist with right nephron-ureterectomy on June 2015 and 3 month cystocopies. He had been having intravesical injection of BCG x to control the spread of the cancer but to date, the tumour has been spreading within the bladder and to the prostate and the urethra. During the last consultation with the urologist Jan 2018 he was told that further surgery is useless.
We have been fortunate in being able to organise an analysis of the tumours genetic profile and sensitivity to chemotherapy agents to treat this agressive tumour. According to the reports recieved the standard chemoetherapy protocal for bladder cancer will be quite useless in Alex's case. He has been recommended that a specific chemotherapy agent be used but this drug is not listed for bladder cancer treatment in Autralia.
The drug can be ordered for use in treating Alex, but it has to be a private prescription which will be very expensive, including visiting specialists and professors
and requiring further ongoing treatment and tests.
Alex has seen a Professor Oncologist at the Northern Cancer Institute who has begun discussing treatment options. Our initial request for funds was under estimated and therefore we are increasing our goal.

Alex notó por primera vez sangre en su orina a principios de junio de 2015. El examen de citología informó un carcinoma urotelial papilar agresivo.
Fue atendido por el urólogo con nefron ureterectomía derecha en junio de 2015 y 3 meses por cistocopia. Había recibido una inyección intravesical de BCG x para controlar la diseminación del cáncer, pero hasta la fecha, el tumor se ha diseminado dentro de la vejiga, la próstata y la uretra. Durante la última consulta con el urólogo Jan 2018 le dijeron que una nueva cirugía es inútil.
Hemos tenido la bendicion de poder organizar un análisis del perfil genético de los tumores y la sensibilidad a los agentes de quimioterapia para tratar este tumor agresivo. Según los informes recibidos, el protocolo de quimioterapia estándar para el cáncer de vejiga será bastante inútil en el caso de Alex. Se le ha recomendado que se use un agente de quimioterapia específico, pero este medicamento no está incluido en la lista para el tratamiento del cáncer de vejiga en Australia.
El medicamento puede ordenarse para su uso en el tratamiento de Alex, pero tiene que ser una receta privada que será muy costosa, incluidos los especialistas y profesores visitantes y requiriendo tratamiento y pruebas adicionales.
Alex ha visto a un profesor de oncología en el Instituto del Cáncer del Norte, que ha comenzado a discutir las opciones de tratamiento. Nuestra solicitud inicial de fondos fue subestimada y, por lo tanto, aumentamos nuestra meta.
