Al needs help with medical bills!

Our friend from Guatemala was attacked and injured outside a Portland bar. We're raising money to help him cover medical, rehabilitation and legal expenses.
What happened:
In March, Alejandro was attacked by a man with a knife outside a bar in north Portland.
He suffered a deep cut on his forearm, just below his wrist. He's had two hospital visits, one emergency visit to stitch the wound and another follow-up operation to reattach two severed tendons.
Fortunately, Alejandro should recover fully. It's going to be a lengthy road to recovery. He will have to undergo rehabilitation therapy to regain the full ability of his hand. Portland police have not yet apprehended his assailant.
What we are funding:
Currently Alejandro is battling insurers over his medical claim. If he is denied coverage his medical costs will be in the many thousands of dollars. His tendon surgery cost well over $9000. Ambulance transportation costs are more than $1000. Medications, his emergency room visit, his rehabilitation, as well as legal fees associated with prosecution and restitution will combine to cost well over $12,000. Alejandro is a tourist in our city and country, we can't allow him to go home with this unwarranted burden.
Who gets the money:
Alejandro Gaitan Rodriguez is visiting from Antigua, Guatemala. At home he works with Habitat For Humanity and as a wilderness guide leading mountian expeditions. He loves to connect people with nature. He admires people who live simple, sustainable lives. He came to Portland to visit friends and experience our beautiful city.
Alejandro's sister Karen Monterroso Gaitan, who is based in the U.S., will be withdrawing and managing your donations on his behalf. She will pay any bills here in the states as they become available, and will be sending funds directly to Alejandro via wire transfer to pay for ongoing rehabitlitation-related costs.

When I heard about what happened to Al, I honestly couldn't believe it. There are few people in this world as kind, caring and genuine as this man.
