The City of Akron, Iowa is fundraising for a new aquatic center. Our current pool was built in the 1950's and is unfortunately deteriorating rapidly and leaking 25,000 - 30,000 gallons of water daily, meaning every 6 days the pool is completely refilled. Treating this new water also comes with higher chemical costs and cooler water temperatures.

This project will help benefit approximately 10,000 people each year and positively affect the quality of life of the entire community. The new facility will be ADA compliant,  have zero depth entry and several modern amenities that our current pool does not offer.  It is designed to be especially beneficial to children, the elderly and those individuals who are physically challenged.

Donations will be used to support a new aquatic center that we hope to have constructed and operable by the summer of 2023.

Our project is estimated to cost approximately  2 million dollars. We feel this is a big undertaking for a city our size, but very vital at the same time. We don't want to see the day come where we can't continue to operate the current pool, leaving us without one.

We have been working hard at writing and applying for grants and fundraising. In addition, the City of Akron has  designated a portion of the city’s local option sales tax dollars annually, to date we have over $700,000 in our pool fund.

Your generous donation will make a huge impact on our small community for years to come!
