Brothers,
As some of you may have heard, AKL Xi lost a brother, Joshua Thomas, on April 6. Losing a brother would always be extremely difficult, but unfortunately, the situation is far from ordinary, as Josh's loss is compounded by the losses of Alexander Mullins and Jake Hughes last August.
While we all cannot be physically present for support and memorial events in Kirksville, our brothers need to know the Alumni care and stand with them. The goal of this GoFundMe page is set at $15,000, which will allow us to establish an endowment fund through Truman State University in the names of Josh Thomas, Alex Mullins, and Jake Hughes. All donations are appreciated, so please share this with and encourage your family and others to contribute as well. Any amount raised will go to the university, with the goal of creating the endowment.
I am so proud to say that many of my life's most meaningful relationships have been made because of this organization. I've been able to see brothers graduate from undergrad (mostly) and grad school, get married, get apartments and dogs (even a cat or two) and homes, have children, be groomsmen and best men at each other's weddings, marry another brother's sister(!), and so much more. I even credit my own marriage to AKL (met her at the AKL house in 2007), and I'm sure many others have similar stories. We need the current actives to know that while they are going through hell today, you just keep going and come out on the other side, because these wonderful life events are waiting and will be experienced by each of them too, with upstanding men of Xi standing by their side along the way.
In addition to donating and sharing this page, I encourage each of you to reach out to an active and make yourself available through Facebook, offer your phone number or e-mail, or head up to Kirksville to hang out with them, if possible. But most importantly, however we can, let's come together as a family and stand with our brothers to work through this unimaginable time as one.
